Poetry en Plein Air

  • Lourdes Grotto 4503 Broadway Street San Antonio (map)

Due to today’s thunderstorms, our event will be held in the UIW Mabee Library Auditorium.

Headwaters at Incarnate Word partners with poets from the environmental writers group Stone in the Stream/Roca en el Rio and friends, to share poems grounded in and celebrating the natural world, at the Lourdes Grotto on the Incarnate Word Campus. This special outdoor reading, located near the Blue Hole, will feature poets Jim LaVilla-Havelin, Wendy Barker, Jean Hackett, Mobi Warren, Darby Riley, Marisol Cortez, Cyra Dumitru, Liberty Heise, D. Ellis Phelps, Joshua Robbins, and Carmen Tafolla.

Seating within the Grotto is available on a first-come basis. You are welcome to bring additional seating such as lawn chairs or blankets. The Lourdes Grotto is accessible by wheelchair but the path has uneven surfaces. Those with mobility concerns should contact Pamela Ball at pamela.ball@headwaters-iw.org. Restrooms and other accommodations are available in the Student Engagement Center near the Grotto.

Parking is available in lots along Broadway, marked in red on the map below. Please do not park in spaces marked for faculty, residents, or the Chapel.
